Surgery in Urological Emergencies
Urological emergencies call for surgical skills that residents are expected to to feel comfortable with, yet rarely get the chance to practice: penile exploration after suspected penile fracture, scrotal exploration, emergency laparotomy, bladder suture. These procedures are infrequent enough that hands-on experience is hard to come by during training, and until now, no dedicated course existed in Switzerland to fill that gap. It was to address this need that Prof. Philippe Sebe first developed this course, launched in 2026 to strong success.
This fully practical training course is dedicated to the management of urological emergencies, with a particular focus on urological trauma and emergency open surgery. Designed for residents with a minimum of two years of experience in urology, the course provides an immersive learning environment combining expert teaching with intensive hands-on training.
Participants will develop and refine essential surgical skills through wet-lab sessions, focusing on practical techniques required in challenging emergency scenarios. The course emphasizes decision-making, operative strategies, and the management of complex urological conditions where timely and effective intervention is crucial.
Under the guidance of experienced faculty, participants will gain valuable practical experience and confidence in addressing urological emergencies in daily clinical practice.
